As environmental concerns become more and more mainstream, demands for eco-friendly products and services have vastly increased. An area that a lot of people may not consider when it comes to going green is cleaning uses. The use of eco-friendly or ‘green’ products and methods, not only reduces the impact on the environment, but they also ensure the wellbeing of families in the home, especially the little ones. Glass is one area that, when properly cleaned, can shine beautifully, but it can also be a challenge to clean without the use of harsh chemicals. Below are some eco-friendly and sustainable ways to make glass windows and surfaces sparkle.

1. White Vinegar

White vinegar is a natural solvent and can be used to clean stains and grease. It is best to use a solution of half vinegar and half water for glass surfaces. Simply spray the solution onto the glass and wipe it clean with a dry cloth.

2. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a great cleaning agent and can be used to clean glass. Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda and a cup of water in a spray bottle and shake the bottle to disperse the baking soda. Spray the solution onto the glass windows and wipe it with a dry cloth.

3. Newspaper

Instead of using paper towels to clean glass, try using old or unused newspapers. The newspaper provides more surface area for the cleaning solution to work with, leaving glass streak-free and shiny.

4. Lemon Juice and Water

For a fresh and clean scent, try using a solution of lemon juice and water to clean glass surfaces.  Squeeze half a lemon into a cup of water and mix thoroughly. Spray the solution onto the glass and use a sponge or a rag to wipe it clean.

5. Microfiber Cloth

Instead of using cotton rags or paper towels to clean glass, try using a microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths are softer and more absorbent than cotton rags and are great for capturing and holding dirt and other particles.

6. Essential Oils

Essential oils are not only great for diffusing around the home, they can also be added to glass cleaning solutions for added cleaning and fragrances. Try adding a few drops of some essential oils such as lemon, peppermint, or tea tree oil to some of the glass cleaning solutions mentioned above for an added clean and fresh scent.

The Benefits of Eco-Cleaning

Not only is eco-cleaning better for the environment, it also helps keep your family safe from harmful chemicals and odors that come with chemical cleaning products. Using some of the eco-friendly methods mentioned above will help keep your glass surfaces clean and sparkling and free from chemical residues and harmful chemicals. Clean and shiny glass surfaces make any room feel bright and inviting.
